What is PM Kusum Scheme?

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM Yojna). It is basically for the installation of grid connection agriculture pumps and other renewable solar power plants in the country.

This scheme is currently aimed to provide solar and other renewable energy with a capacity of 25,750 MW by the end of 2022. The central government has allotted a total financial support for Rs. 34,422 Crore that includes service charges.

What are the Objective of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam utthaan mahabhiyan Yojana

The main objective of this PM Kusum Yojana is to benefit farmers across the country. In this Kusum Yojana Group of farmers, any panchayat, and co-operative societies can also apply to the state government for planting solar pumps.

The total amount in this PM URJA Yojana is divided into three categories. It comprises 30% of the cost will be given by the government in the form of loans. And the government will also provide a 60% subsidy to the farmers as well. And ultimately the Farmers will only have to deposit 10% of the total cost of the project to get it started.

And on top of that, the government has also given the rights to sell extra electricity generated from the solar panel.

Benefits of PM KUSUM Scheme/ Yojana

Below are the benefits that a farmer, group of farmers or landowners will get. First and foremost the rural landowners will have a continuous source of income for a minimum of 25 years for their uncultivated land.

Furthermore, the solar power plants are specially built on dry land. As building power pumps on dry land to make sure the grid is connected with agriculture pump all the time and electricity is continuously generated.

Component of Pradhan Mantri URJA Yojana

So, there are basically three components of PM Kusum Urja Yojana, Component A, Component B and Component C. Let us discuss about the components in detail below:

  1. Component A: A total of 10,000 MegaWatt of Ground Mounted Decentralized Grid of Renewable power plants will be set up, with single plant size up to 2 MW.
  2. Component B: Solar Pumps with capacity up to 7.5 HP will be installed with a standalone budget of 17.50 lakh,
  3. Component C: These 10 Lakhs Solar Power Grid Connected to the agriculture pumps with massive capacity of 7.5 HP each will be solarized.
